Hopefully you will catch onto what I'm talking about and yes it was for school. I took about 15 minutes typing this from scatch for a paper. Didn't cover everything but got 80%+ of it.

My Modest Proposal

Ever since the invention of games on the web, there always has been cheating of some form. At first it was just a little problem that could be brushed off by new game updates. Now it leads to losing millions of dollars in revenue and crushes the player's confidence in the company that created the game in the first place. Instead of loosing profits you can actually gain from this!

Now I see this as a fantastic opportunity to boost profits. Many times this cheating includes using programs called bots. Since you are the company created the amazing game in the first place, you could easily make a bot program that is built into the game in such a way no other competitor or third party software can compete. On the other hand, you have people that are using programs to change and bend rules of the game using packet editing and client editing software. They change what the server receives and what the client is supposed to send to the server. Well, the solution is extremely simple for one. Make that third party software completely outdated and come out with a release for hacking software that works better than any other one. You can easily make effective ways to bypass your own systems and make cheating easier than ever before and available to everyone at the same time.

Now turning this into a boost in profits is very simple. First, you make a small fee to get the program. Second, you make each update in the game in such a way that your current version of cheating software is outdated. Lastly, you then update your cheating software to cheat undetected once again to sell again for a small fee. This will lead you into a cycle of creating large amounts of revenue and lead to making faster updates because you can spend more money on paying more people and making more money.

You might think that this will turn off players and make them want to quit the game but you are wrong. At least eighty percent of players have cheated in one time or another! The other twenty percent do not usually cheat because it is perceived as immoral and unfair. Making cheating available to everyone at a cheap price will therefore make cheating a fair and regular process. In the end, you will make masses of profits and corner this market before third party software does. Don't wait too long because the quality of this software is getting better than ever before and will eventually be impossible to compete with except if you act now and crush the competition.

If that doesn't give you enough proof maybe this will. Jagex, a company that runs and manages an online game called RuneScape, has done the opposite. They have done means to remove the process of cheating by any means. Now they suffer from a declining rate of member unlike before where it was rising increasingly. The economy in the game also suffered by a steep drop in prices and players also felt punished for something they had absolute no control over. Taking a step further, they have also removed the idea of deciding how much you should pay for something in the game! They decide the prices of every item in every way. They also put a cap on how much you can gain from a trade! So therefore you can't benefit from donations that other members might give to you! They have gone over the edge and are continuing to crush their profits.

This does affect me in every aspect, so why would I believe in such a dramatic change? First off, I believe in fairness and a positive community. Removing the options of having players gain an unfair advantage by giving everyone the ability to cheat will do this. I also believe in the fact that there is no way to stop anyone to cheat, only remove the motivation of cheating. If someone really wants to cheat, they can. No matter how hard you try cheating will continue to occur. So give into what every player wants and give them official cheating software for your game! What can you loose from this, profits will soar and everyone will benefit.

Good idea with giving out cheating software. But probably Jagex would say it would ruin the game or something...
I think they will never stop RWT. Now people will pay loans for party hats because lending system is out.
And there is still power leveling on cheating websites. And some people know how to RWT in bounty hunter, too.

I read it once again. Actually it's genious. All cheaters would just give extra money to Jagex so they could allow RWT and have no loses lol !

I see that you haven't caught on so I'm gonna hint this word: satirical. The title also gives more away...

Hopefully this idea isn't too great. Might not get a good grade lmao. (Supposed to be bad way to fix it)

Edit: This isn't part of the paper at all really but it got me thinking more and make this little "unofficial" addition to my paper. It doesn't go into it exactly but close enough for me.

If Jagex used this effective method, they could not only remove all aspects of comepition but also keep track of cheating like no other! They could sit there and make sure that the people cheating can't over cheat or abuse cheating! This elimitates all ideas of real world trading and power leveling because no player can really get away with it and gain from it. Gaining is everything and providing the means to gain things a lot easier by offering new cheating sowfare does this. Many times people have cheated to just gain through greed and other things that religion tells us not to do usually.

If you really believe that this will not work, then think of this last reason. Since you will be continuely making cheats that bypass your servers and making money at the same time, you can easily learn how to close these known gaps every update and look for another place that you can bypass it! Eventually no matter what you do, you will completely remove the idea of unfairness and cheating. Soon enough, the most concern in games will be if the sword is shiny or not!
